Our History

New Gateways, Inc. was formally known as the Easter Seals of Southeast Michigan Gateways Program.  The program originally began in August 1992.  Four parents and one sister of developmentally disabled adults joined together in hopes of starting a day program.  They presented their ideas of a community day program to the Easter Seals Board and everyone seem to agree that the idea was a wonderful opportunity.

Shortly after the parents and newly hired staff settled in a facility, people from all over Oakland County started coming to see and attend the program.  The program thrived and overcame many finacial challenges until 2004.

In April 2004, Gateways broke away from Easter Seals of Southeast Michigan and became New Gateways, Inc.  The program remains intact with an even stronger parents group and the original dedicated staff.
